This is a very serious subject not to be treated as lightly as our own government seems determined to treat it. While I don't expect us to get off nearly as light as this story depicts, (thanks to the hero getting off a lucky shot at the ICBM being launched IN IRAN, which knocks it off course and spares half the country), even that amount of damage is terrible to contemplate and could be fatal. Unless you really think the UN, EU, China, Russia, and Japan will immediately rush to feed 70% of the US population while making war on Iran, Egypt, and many other radical muslim dominated countries. Also that no one will take advantage of our destruction to split the country between them at the Mississippi river, except for the new extension of Mexico into Southern California and the southwest USA.....if you believe that, then don't get too carried away, it is just a story. Right? You know we are going to negotiate with Iran and solve this anyway, right? Keep telling yourself that.Product details

I give 3 stars partly for the affordability/value. That said, it wouldn't be a value if it were priced even just a little bit higher. The premise is very good and the military action is just good enough. I purchased the book after reading so much high praise not only in reviews here, but also in reviews for other books, wherein reviewers would knock the book they were reviewing and heartily recommend this book. After all the hype I feel letdown. The plot has many holes. I almost gave it 2 stars, but there are salient points of which more people need to be made aware.
ok, I have read maybe too many of this genre now and I'm becoming a little jaded. That said, this was one of the absolute best I've ever read in this genre or any other. Fast paced all to hell! structured extremely well; very few editing mistakes...a great read. I just hated to see this one end, that means to me 'bravo' .. and for the price of the kindle edition and unbelievable bargain. Half way thru I was looking online for other books by the author (none yet). Thank you Mr. Knight please let me know when you've got another. 5-stars from me.
I saw Alan's pulse advertised in Soldier of Fortune magazine and immediately downloaded a copy. It USA sobering story describing the heroic acts of several brave people. The story is so realistic it could be tomorrow's headlines. I was glued to the book as I read each person's story as well as the dastardly attack of Arab world against freedom loving people. This book will instruct you on what to do to plan for civil disobedience caused by whatever kind of catastrophe knocks out the power. This was a gripping read and which I will re-read to remind myself about the necessity of good preparations and the reality that Alah's forces want to do exactly what they did in this book! We must be ever watchful.and never doubt their commitment to destroy the Great Satan and the Little satan.
I just finished reading this book. I found it to be one of the the better books on EMP. The topic was well research and written by the author. Very good read, you won't regret it. However, (spoil alert) what I found least realistic was NATO nor Russia fired the nukes right after the EMP attack. As trigger happy as the U.S and Russia are, this would have happened while the EMP was still at mid air. I also found some of the characters distracting like Lisa, Todd, and (i forgot the truck drivers name, sorry). I would have preffered some average joe inside a city or to keep adding to the other characters. overall, a great book......
This book was a great read. Loved the way several story lines were moving at the same time, sometimes in parallel to other stories. It was hard to guess what the outcomes of the different stories would be. I liked that. There was a bit of technical talk, which lent reality to the story, and helped to add depth to the story. I wasn't sure Mr.. Knight would successfully finish off the story lines satisfactorily, but he did...very well, I might add! Great story. Hard to put down. The kind of story that isn't out there any more. A true story.
This is an extremely well written book with an excellent inclusion of the Arab side of WWWIII. The characters are fleshed out and real, the challenges and action very realistic, the US reaction predictable for anyone who has studied US history at all. The main characters are strong enough that you keep reading to find out what happens to them. It even has a happy ending!
Strongly recommended for anyone who enjoys this genre and wonders how the international scene would fare from an EMP. Be prepared though, you will stay up reading it!
Four stars are simply because I wanted to know a little more about what was happening in the US and a little less about Italy.
The characters are interesting and the author writes his military engagements will skill and authenticity. All in all it makes for a readable book. Where the work loses me is the impossibility of the general plot. Muslim coalition attacked the US with a nuclear attack devastating two thirds of the country but the author doesn't explain why the response wouldn't' t be an all-out nuclear destruction of the attacking countries by the unaffected Trident submarine force instead of a costly (and probably impossible given the emp damage) conventional land and sea response to for some reason recapture Italy.And using "6" nuclear weapons on the coalition capitals would have ended any organized military operations by those countries much less a heavily logistics dependent invasion of Euorope-global plot just doesn't' add up.
